In 2017 BCL has made significant investments to enhance internet performance and security by completing several major upgrades to its IT&T infrastructure.
The year started with the consolidation of our server farm from multiple physical servers to a more manageable number of virtualised servers. These are now fully redundant, backed up and hosted in multiple BCL locations, inside state-of-the-art and purpose-built data centre facilities. As part of this upgrade we also migrated to the latest version of software running on the servers.
We undertook major works in uplifting our capability around dealing with cyber security threats in March 2017. This included upgrading network firewall infrastructure and email spam filters, allowing BCL to remain unharmed in the event of global outbreaks of viruses and malware.
Further improvements were made when we engaged Telstra to take over the provision of internet services. This saw an increase of 3 times the previous bandwidth, resulting in faster browsing and downloads and a more stable internet connection for all clients.
Additional upgrades are in the pipeline for 2018 to ensure we continue to support the evolving needs of barristers.
