Joining the Network
To join you will need to download and fill out page four on the network application form and send it to BCL reception on Level 1, Douglas Menzies Chambers, 180 William St, Melbourne.
A table of the network charges can be found online with the application form.

Independent Chambers IT Policy
In most cases if your chambers are connected to the BCL network the charges are standard BCL charges. The decision to connect is a decision for your landlord or head of chambers. In many cases BCL is willing to absorb the set-up costs. The detailed policy is available here.
Network Charges
a) Connection fee and infrastructure charge of $165
b) Cabling charges vary if applicable
c) Monthly network internet access fee of $49.50 (12gb per month) or $59.95 (unlimited)
d) An annual Vicbar email address charge of $38.50
e) An optional monthly email assist charge of $11.00 (if you only have a Vicbar email address). If this option is not taken $30 per half hour will be charged, minimum $30.00.
f) Smart/mobile phone email set up fee of $33.00 (pickup and delivery alternative available for $60.00)
g) An annual hosting fee of $66.00 for smart/mobile phones (no charge if on BCL/Vicbar internet)
h) A monthly backup service charge of $5.00 plus $30.00 for backup recall if required
Cabling charges
Most BCL chambers should have a data points already. In the case that there is no data connection point in your chambers BCL will install one at no cost. However, if you wish to move the existing port, charges for cabling from hub switch to the wall will vary from building to building depending on the cabling and inter-connection requirements.
A job quotation from DESA will be required to determine the final cabling cost. Please call ext. 6664 to arrange a quotation.
Monthly access charges
BCL charges a monthly fee of $49.50 (up to 12gb downloads plus $0.02 per mb over the limit) or $59.95 (unlimited downloads) to cover Internet access, including maintenance of the network infrastructure and network support.
Email annual fee
BCL charges an annual fee for each email address of $38.50, including GST.
A Vicbar email address is available to all barristers of the Victorian Bar and their staff.
Email assist charge
This charge is optional and is available to those who have only a Vicbar email address. The fee covers Helpdesk queries relating to the email connection only. No charges apply if connected to the Internet network. This support is provided on a best endeavours basis.
If not an “email assist” subscriber, Helpdesk service is provided at $30.00 per half hour, with a minimum of $30.00 charged.
Email storage
The standard email storage provision is 500mb. The option to upgrade this capacity incurs a yearly fee.
1gb $10.00 including GST
2gb $15.00 including GST
Additional capacity is available at $5.00 (inc. GST) per 1gb (maximum 5gb).
Smart phone/Blackberry service
The set up and configuration charge for this service is $33.00 if delivered to BCL and picked up. A pickup and delivery alternative is available for $60.00.
If not a subscriber to the internet service there is an annual hosting fee of $66.00.
Backup service
This service allows users to back up locally stored files to a BCL server. This server will also be backed up on a weekly basis. The cost for this service is $5.00 per month plus $30.00 for backup recall if required.
Standard fully supported service (Gold service)
This service includes email address, network access, Helpdesk support, hardware (computer and software excluding printer) and set up by BCL.

The software provided is as loaded and does not enable additional software to be loaded.
The hardware provided will be updated after 2 years or a 35% discount will apply thereafter. If updates are requested before this time then charges will apply.
Flexible supported service (Silver service)
This is the same as the service outlined above except that additional software can be added by a nominated service provider (at a cost agreed with the service provider).

For this package the cost of support will be met by the user where the issue is referred to the nominated service provider.
Optional support service
If computer hardware and software is purchased independently of BCL the Helpdesk is still a support option, however, charges may apply.
Issues not caused by the failure of the network will be charged.
The charges are as follows:

Notes:
- New members to the BCL network will be charged the infrastructure charge. When readers connect to the network during their reading period they are exempt from this charge.
- All charges stated above may be varied without notice.
- The supply of all Internet services is subject to the BCL/Vicbar Network's Internet connection policy. That policy may be varied from time to time without prior notice.
- To connect to the system your computer needs to be programmed and a Network card is required. There is an additional charge for programming, supply and installation which may be obtained by contacting one of the approved contractors listed below. Please note that this arrangement is between yourself and the contractor. Once cabling has been completed one of the following contractors will contact you to arrange an appointment.

For security reasons, BCL will not permit installation by others not listed above unless a prior arrangement has been made with BCL.
