Purpose

To be the preferred long term supplier of accommodation, and other facilities and services, to members of the Victorian Bar (the Bar) and to do so in a financially sustainable way that facilitates open access to the Bar in a collegiate environment and without imposing onerous obligations upon entering or remaining at the Bar.

Objectives


The objectives of BCL are to further the purpose by:

a) providing well maintained chambers of an appropriate quality, quantity and cost, with flexible pricing and terms and in close proximity to the courts;

b) providing accommodation to the Victorian Bar for its activities, including educational, social and member activities and for work of its Committees and Associations;

c) providing accommodation for Barristers' Clerks;

d) providing modern, innovative and reliable Information Technology and Telephone (IT&T) facilities and services available to all members of the Bar;

e) providing ancillary services consistent with the company's purposes so as to promote and support collegiality at the Bar.                     

 

Goals

To achieve these objectives, the goals of BCL are to:

a) source, secure and maintain a range of chamber accommodation of varying kind, price and amenity;

b) maintain a high level of satisfaction of its tenants and of members of the Bar in relation to chambers and IT&T facilities and services;

c) increase members' use of chambers, IT&T facilities and other services provided by BCL;

d) so price its offerings as to achieve the financial sustainability of its operations and the capacity to meet the future accommodation and IT&T needs of the Bar;

e) develop systems to gauge and meet the varying need for chambers over time;

f) research, set and meet appropriate standards for the delivery of IT&T services;

g) identify other services that may be of benefit to the Bar and its individual members.
